Handler “Knives” Mal'Thorne has decided to put on a bit of a show for the patrons of the Tether and to the benefit of the slaves, a true test of endurance and physical ability! This is a slave chase to be held between three brave slaves on the warm shores of the Tether's coast. In addition to an exciting and amusing race, there will be drinks, edible treats and open (freeform) betting between the patrons for attendees to enjoy at their leisure.
The race will feature five obstacles that slaves must overcome to reach the end! The point of this race is to showcase slave's durability and athleticism, as well as determination and ambition! These are all valuable qualities that a slave should possess, and this event serves to put these on display for the patrons of the Tether.
First Obstacle: Logs. A fairly straight patch on the beach has been instead draped with a number of large fallen logs hauled down from the jungle torn free of their massive roots in the avalanche weeks prior, they've slowly begun to rot and thus are sticky and soggy in areas. Slaves must climb (not jump) over these.
Second Obstacle: Mud. A large patch of the beast had been turned into a soggy mud pit, requiring slaves to trudge across it as quickly as possible. Along the bottom the ground is slick, making gaining traction difficult.
Third Obstacle: Rope Wall. No obstacle course is complete without a climbing feature, and before the racers stands in the middle of the course a wall easily twenty feet high made entirely of netted rope that they will have to scale. The rope is fairly unsecured, causing it to give under steps and hand grips, pushing racer's balance to its limits.
Fourth Obstacle: Water. This deep obstacle that requires slaves to swim through a small under-water course of criss-crossed wooden beams, and it's rumored that those dark moving shapes in the water are hungry. Lest the competitors are too slow, they may find a few nips taken out of them from a couple small, hungry sharks.
Final Obstacle: Fire: Lastly, a bed of coals has been laid out before the contestants. Jumping across will disqualify the runner. They have no choice but to try crossing it as quickly as possible on foot. Don't trip!
Additionally...
In addition to the main obstacles, slaves may also occasionally come across one other obstacle- the patrons themselves!
Yes, in this slave chase, patrons are encouraged not only to spectate, but participate! Each patron will be given one piece of slightly-stale piece of fruit or bread that they can then lob at the slave of their choice during the race, causing the slave (if hit!) to delay their advancement by one round! Fruit can be thrown at any time during the race, but may only be thrown once per patron during the entirety of the race.
The race is open to all slaves, so long as owned slaves have permission of their owners to compete.
Prizes
First place – Excellent. Durable, determined and capable, this slave has bested the competition and earns three nights of sleep in an actual bed, two luxury baths and one new set of clothing tailored specifically to them.
Second place – Not too shabby. This slave has earned a nice dinner and bath, both to be taken at a time of their choosing.
Third place – Last Place. This slaves earns the exclusive honor to help clean up the mess from the event... yay!
How to play:
Posting order:
There is no posting order outside of the three running slaves and the host (Chaffen). Patrons may post in and as often as they like to respond to each other and serving slaves.
Patrons:
At any point a patron can choose to throw their fruit at one of the racers. You may do this only once during the entire event. If you plan to do so, please Bold the slave's name in your post and whisper Chaffen to let me know you're doing so, so that it doesn't accidentally get missed! Then, after your post, roll a 1d2 to see if your throw connects or not. 1 means you missed, 2 means you hit, and the slave is delayed on their next post.
Please try to avoid ganging up on a specific contestant. A throw may be negated if its the third or fourth in a row for the same slave.
Slaves:
Roll a 1d20 after your post to attempt passing an obstacle. Roll 10 or above and you successfully move on to the next obstacle. The higher you roll, the more easily your character gets through the obstacle. Anything less than 10 and your character is slowed by the obstacle, and will have to keep trying.
If you're successfully hit by fruit being thrown prior to your post, you will not roll for success on your upcoming turn, as your character, naturally, will be too busy being slowed by the thrown fruit.
