IC: The Proving Grounds is a three part event that will take place on three different nights over three weeks, held by the familiar Assassin, Chaffen “Knives” Mal'Thorne. In the spirit of competition and the overwhelming enjoyment of combat, Knives is proposing three contests that are open to the general public as well as unowned slaves who have some skill in any form of combat and who are looking for some coin or recognition.

Prizes:
Prizes will be handed out once at each event.
Patrons will receive 500 gold pieces if they win.
Slaves, since they cannot have coin, will be treated to a custom outfit crafted by the lovely seamstress Cestella, that should help them to garner rentals and interest, or simply replace whatever rags they have on.

OOC Info: Chaffen is looking for potential new assassins for his Syndicate or gladiator slaves that can serve his house. Naturally, Patrons with weapon skill will catch Chaffen's eye, and open them to a possible place in the company, which specializes in mercenary type work as well as high class assassinations, plenty of plot and future character development. Slaves with battle prowess are far more likely to become one of the assassin's Arena gladiators, or perhaps a hunter for the house, which is also needed.

This information is NOT being (ICly) openly disclosed; as far as anyone knows, Chaffen is hosting these events for enjoyment and nothing more. However, anyone who knows him and how he is may speculate that he is in fact hosting these, looking for potential, (which would be correct) so the rumor may be floating around. Whether or not you choose to make use of this is totally up to you!

This effectively acts as an invitation for new players to come and take part in our plots. We're looking to expand our group a bit, and this seemed like a good means to invite new potential folks. Feel free to whisper Chaffen with any questions you might have!

Spoiler! "Disclaimers!
Winning does not automatically guarantee you a slot into the company or house, just opens an avenue for us to RP where as we might not have done so before. Naturally, further Rps will have to be had to determine whether the characters fit in the company and/or in the house before any decisions are made.

Likewise, Losing the event doesn't mean you'll be ignored, either. Just showing up shows that you might be interested and will garner more attention in the long run.

Magic users will find it harder to impress Chaffen, as he severely distrusts them, but that does not mean it is impossible for them to be accepted into either roll."

Night 1: The Melee
When: June 4th at 5:30PM FST
Tonight's event centers around melee combat, that is, any combat that is hand to hand, but armed with some kind of hand held weapon. Swords, Daggers, Axes, Maces of any size or shape are allowed.

Taking place in the *Gladiator tack room, a maximum of 5 Contestants will be put in front of three of their own, individual fighting dummies, and will all start at the same time. They must destroy the first dummy before moving on to the next, and so on. The first combatant to destroy the third/final dummy wins. In the event of a tie, an additional dummy will be added to each.

Chaffen will also be hiring or renting two servers for the evening to hand out beverages and treats.

How to play!
Each dummy has a total of 30HP.
Outcomes will be decided with the simple and familiar dice rolls:
At the end of each post, roll 1d3. If you roll a 2, roll a 1d10. If you roll a 3, roll a 1d20.
1= Miss.

Remei always needed some coin around the tether, so she'd sign herself up quickly.

Night 2: Ranged
When:June 18th at 2:00PM FST
Battles would not be won without the aid of powerful ranged attackers. While Bow and Arrow are most traditional in this field, this contest is open to all forms of ranged weapons. This includes things like thrown daggers, stars, blown darts or other projectile devices.

Since this event has the hazard of thrown devices, it will be taking place outdoors, in the *Garden. Like before, targets will be used, except in this case there is only one target. There will in this case be five rounds, and on each, the contestants must fire one projectile, with the intention to get it as close to the center as possible. At the end of these rounds, whoever has fired the most closest to the center will win. In the event of a tie, an additional round will be had.

How to play!

Outcomes will be decided with the simple dice rolls:
At the end of each post, roll 1d5
1= Miss.
2= Hit, Edge shot.
3= Hit, Middle ground.
4= Hit, Fair shot.
5= Hit, Dead center.
Contestants:
1. Diana Barnett
2. Xolotl
3. Amelia Lukin
4. Lyubov (stand in)
5.

Servers:
1. Delinda
2.

Regarding Night 2!

This event is being postponed! We didn't have enough competitors and some other things came up that made us unable to run the event tonight.

This event will now take place on:
June 18th, 2:00 FST
We still need Archers/Bowmen, or anyone who can throw/sling a projectile at ranged who would like to compete.
